ALGOHUB

Algohub is a nationwide project dedicated to innovation and collaboration, launched in 2008. It brings together 15 partners whose aim is to create an industrial channel to use microalgae as a raw material in such varied sectors as human and animal nutrition, healthcare and cosmetics. This is a project supported by OSEO to the tune of 10 millions euro.
Amongst these partners in Algohub, GREENSEA occupies a capital position since it is one of the rare enterprises to offer its experience of microalgae culture on a massive scale under controlled conditions and methods of extraction which pose no danger to the environment.

BAMMBO

This 3 year European programme, part of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) and initiated in May 2011, is aimed at research on useful marine biomolecules from partners’ algae collections, at culture scale-up on pilot industrial sites, and then extraction and purification of the active ingredients identified.
The consortium, co-ordinated by the Limerick Institute of Technology (Ireland) comprises a partnership of 10 internationally-renowned institutions plus 2 industrial partners among which GREENSEA will perform the key role of industrial publicist.
This programme brings GREENSEA to recognition at a European level.

PEARL

Dental caries is the most common chronic disease in the world, affecting nearly all adults. Preventive treatment is provided by sealants. However, current sealants do not reach proximal sites, do not allow enamel repair, and may have biocompatibility issues. PEARL combines innovative algal compounds and technology to create a new bioactive micro-sealant that treats proximal sites, enhances enamel repair, is easy to monitor, biocompatible and reduces cariogenic properties of plaque.

Studima FUI BPI

This project aims the production and use of microalgae for the production of new additives intended for the nutrition market / health of livestock by targeting three species (pig, poultry and dairy cows), providing inputs “functional food” in conventional formulations. The algal biomass can be viewed as effective additives in animal feed bringing elicitors effects of immunity or regulators of the digestive tract. This project runs jointly with INRA Tours specialized in the study of the digestive tract of livestock, in association with a private partner, Olmix-Amadeite.

TECHNOLOGIES OF THE FUTURE

GREENSEA is perfectly placed to accept the challenges of the future by prioritising innovation, by pushing the use of cutting-edge technology such as, for example, culture in a variety of photobioreactors and incubators set up to various configurations, the use of LEDs as a way of providing light instead of the traditional neon sources, the use of separation by environmentally-friendly membranes, and noteworthily micro and ultrafiltration, to isolate and collect worthwhile groups of molecules.
